ELEMENTARY THREADS OF PLANETARY IMAGINARIES
SERIES OF WORKSHOPS W/ ~PES
this series of workshops proposes a pluralization of geology, opening up ways of relating to the elements of the earth through listening, the body, and affect. by problematizing geology as a regime of knowledge historically tied to extraction, appropriation, and colonial violence, the series follows vibratile telluric threads as pathways to rearticulate planetary relations that precede and exceed the logic of the resource.
the series is articulated through exchanges and listening exercises situated in the earth and attentive to temporalities of deep time. this listening does not address the seismic as an abstract phenomenon, but rather the processes of transduction through which telluric vibrations are mediated, transformed, and translated by minerals, soils, waters, and phreatic fluids. attending to these media entails recognizing that such vibrations are not transmitted intact, but are materially modulated, and that the listening that emerges from this process is neither pure nor hygienized, but affected, interfered with, and situated by the materialities that make it possible.
from this perspective, telluric pulses operate as forces that put into crisis the categories through which modern geology has ordered the earth—above and below, solid and fluid, mineral and vegetal, life and death—and open the possibility of reimagining listening as a practice attentive to the ways in which matter itself participates in the production of meaning.
