I BUILD MY LANGUAGE WITH ROCKS
SEISMIC DIARIES

IN COLLABORATION WITH ~PES

seismic diaries is a radio-based, time-specific iteration of the ongoing research process i build my language with rocks. emerging from the aeolian archipelago, the project unfolds as a series of live transmissions attuned to the rhythms, uncertainties, and temporalities of a volcanic island in the open sea.

conceived as seismic diaries, the first broadcast extended over five consecutive days, transmitting signals shaped by the surrounding geological conditions rather than by a fixed program. the radio signal becomes a porous medium through which volcanic hums, stone resonances, strombolian myths, sound improvisations, and unforeseen sonic events surface and recede, echoing the volatility and indeterminacy of volcanic ecologies.

seismic diaries embraces human-life fragility allowing the transmission to remain responsive to the island’s movements, atmospheres, and interruptions. it invites listeners to tune in at any moment during the broadcast period, encountering fragments rather than a linear narrative, and engaging with sound as a practice of attunement.

the process also opens a channel for reciprocal exchange, welcoming responses, reflections, and resonances from listeners. in this way, seismic diaries operates as both a sonic archive and a relational practice —one that situates radio as a site for shared listening, correspondence, and geological intimacy across distance.
